The Tiling Project

“The human heart likes a little disorder in its geometry” (Louis de Bernieres)

... and here is photographic evidence that, after the first day, the aperiodic tiling was progressing rather well. After another day all but a handful of the available tiles had been added to the design. So, full marks to the participating pupils and to Shelley James and Brian Sutton for creating and supervising such a super interactive activity.
I certainly enjoyed both the mathematical conference and the art exhibition. As Dan Rust commented to me “I think it went really well. It was a great meeting in terms of sharing ideas between different viewpoints on the aperiodic”. I'll conclude this commentary by thanking The Open University's organisers of the event. They were; Ian Short, Charlotte Webb and Reem Yassawi. Thank you!
