~ Constrained Models in Aperiodic Settings ~

Felix Flicker (Cardiff University) is a lecturer in physics with a keen interest in revisiting classical models of physics, and applying them to new settings in which the underlying structure of space is aperiodic. His talk focused on what physicists call a dimer. A dimer is, roughly speaking, a pair of entangled qbits (“spins”) that pop into existence at the quantum level out of nothingness. What can happen when dimers pop up on adjacent vertices of Penrose's famous aperiodic tilings? Felix's presentation explored the surprising results, based on a paper co-authored with Steven Simon and Siddharth Parameswaran in 2020.
