Tea Break #2

~ An Icosahedral Teapot #2 ~

The photograph shows a second icosahedral tea pot that was on display as a part of the art exhibition in a building adjacent to where the mathematics conference on “The Aperiodic” was held. Many secondary schools visited the art exhibition over the three day period. There was a lot for them and their teachers to mull over. Geometric constructions with a compass and straight edge are still taught in schools as a part of GCSE mathematics, so it was interesting to see some periodic tilings made in this way being offered for sale priced around £150 a painting. Some motivation for pupils to pay attention in their maths lessons, perhaps! Samira Mian has a website with a terrific gallery of her work on display, as indeed does Hasret Brown.
