~ Aperiodicity and the Borel conjecture ~
The topology of high-dimensional manifolds was the subject of John Hunton's (Durham University) talk and, in particular, the Borel conjecture. This is an observation that two homeomorphic spaces are homotopy equivalent, but the converse is almost always false. The conjecture concerns itself with identifying the conditions that must be satisfied for the converse to be true. His talk was on a research paper written with Alex Clarkin 2016.
