~ Uwe Grimm, some snapshots from his life and work ~
In one of the first talks, Michael Baake (Universität Bielefeld) set the scene by taking the audience on a leisurely tour through some of Uwe's life and work. The slide in the above photograph shows the covers of two books that Michael and Uwe wrote together. The field of aperiodicity is a marvellous intersection of multiple areas of mathematics. These two books, published in 2013 and 2017 respectively, played a key role in pulling together a vast number of ideas from across mathematics and establishing “The Aperiodic” as a subject area in its own right.
