~ Tiling, origami, and chit-chat ~
It is often said that “The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics”. With this in mind, there was a three hour hands-on workshop after Craig's talk in which attendees could have a go at various tiling challenges, overseen by Jean-Marc Castera and the master “shape hobbyist” himself; David Smith. It was a relaxed affair with coffee and snacks available, along with opportunities to admire related artworks or tackle a challenging Origami session (constructing a paper flower) run by Lorenzo Sadun (who would be speaking tomorrow).
