Lizzy Rieth

~ Exploring Deconfined Phases in Quantum ~
~ Dimer Models on Aperiodic Graphs ~

Lizzy grabbed her audiences attention from the start by relating her research to one of the Clay Institutes Millennium Problems. Specifically, the $1,000,000 prize for a theoretical explanation of the “mass gap” observed in computer simulations of the solution of quantum versions of the Yang-Mills equations. She is part of a team exploring Dimer Models, these first introduced to me by Felix Flicker in a talk in 2022. Felix was in the audience along with Shobhna Sing who I've also heard talk (in 2023) on Dimer Models. Lizzy presented a lively introduction to the topic, talking us through aspects of a background paper, and giving a flavour of where she, Felix and Shobhna are taking these ideas next. In her talk, above all else, the excitement of exploring new territory shone through. It was Lizzy's first ever research presentation. I suspect she'll be giving many more as the exploration of Dimer Models advances.
